With the rise in crime statistics, security systems are becoming more prevalent in homes today. The more secure your home is, and appears, the more likely a burglar will choose another house over yours.

Securing Your Home

There are several levels of security measures you can take to protect your home and family.

First, make sure you have good locks on all doors and windows, and lock them when appropriate. An intruders first choice is a door. Second is a window.

Criminals like dark hidden areas where they can break into a home without being detected. Keep shrubs and bushes trimmed to avoid creating these areas. Add security lights and general lighting to areas subject to intrusion.

Consider adding a security system to your home. Security companies offer monitored systems which notify them and/or the police when the security system is breached. Other systems use loud sirens or alarm bells to notify of a breach. Letting potential intruders know you have a home security system can be a big factor in deterring unwanted intrusions.
