Lighting

Lighting sets the mood of a room. As you plan your room remodeling, consider the ambience you want for the room. Lots of windows will fill the room with natural light during the day. Soft hidden lighting can create a relaxed atmosphere. Candles offer a mood all their own.

Indoor Lighting

Lighting should be chosen to coordinate with the furniture, walls, flooring and accents. You can feature art or decorator items by enhancing the lighting in those areas while keeping softer lighting on other areas of the room. The eye is naturally drawn to light, so use lighting to draw the attention where you want your visitors to focus.

Bathrooms can two sets of lighting. One for display with soft, possibly recessed lighting the other with plenty of bright lighting for doing makeup and hair. Skylights are nice for bathrooms as they offer plenty of light during the day and disappear at night.

Track lighting offers ways to light a room with focused light in specific areas while letting other areas disappear into the shadows.

Lighting comes in warm light ranges (yellows and golds) or in cool ranges (blues). Using the right bulb can enhance the mood you are trying to create.

Outdoor Lighting

Set the mood for your outdoor areas as well with lighting. Landscape lighting can give your outdoor area a majestic look when done properly. The basic concept is to keep it soft and point out the best features of your landscaping. Use low voltage lighting for the vast majority of your landscape lighting for reduced risk of electrical shock. Solar lighting is another option however it typically has wattage limitations, delivering less light.
