Garage Plans

Building a new garage or remodeling an existing garage can be made much easier with a set of professional garage floor plans. Whether you are building a one-car, two-car or a six-car garage, or even an apartment garage take the time to find the ideal garage plans for you.

Garages have come a long way from their inception by Henry Ford for the horseless carriage of the early 1900's. Today, garages are not only a place to store our vehicles but are often set up as a work area, storage area and even poker or TV rooms. Often extra attention is paid to details to make the garage a show place of one venue or another.

When purchasing a set of garage plans begin by establishing your goals, size limitations and amenities. What power, water and sewer requirements will you have? Will you need data communications, phones, cable TV, internet, security and the like?

Create a rough sketch of what you are looking for and provide as many dimensions as possible. Be sure to identify any restrictions like trees, power lines, sewer lines and property easements. Once you have these general ideas down on paper you can begin to look for professional garage plans.

Be sure to allow for multiple access points of overhead garage doors with openers and people traffic access doors. Look for a plan that works in your space and gives you the convenience you desire. Note that adding a door to a garage plan is typically a simple matter.

Garage plans consist of several layers of detail including but not limited to floor plan, elevations, footings, wall detail, electrical, plumbing, and more. When acquiring a set of garage plans it should be noted that the plans may or may nor meet local code requirements and restrictions. You may need a permit for the project and may possibly be required to submit the plans for approval.

Check out the company offering the plans for sale. If it is a local architect, they should be aware of code for your area. Generally speaking only minor modifications would be required to make properly created plans meet your local code.
